Two Westport Fires Intentionally-set
State Fire Marshal Peter J. Ostroskey, Westport Fire Chief Brian R. Legendre, and Westport Police Chief Keith A. Pelletier said yesterday’s fire at 118 Forge Road in Westport was intentionally-set. The single family home was under construction and no one was in the home when the fire started at 2 a.m.
A separate investigation into a fire at 39 American Legion Highway at Bergeron Lane in Westport on August 15, determined that fire was also intentionally-set.
Ostroskey said, “Anyone with information about these fires, anyone who saw or heard anything around the time these fires started, is asked to confidentially call the statewide Arson Hotline at 1-800-682-9229, or the Westport Police Department at (508) 636-1122.” The hotline is part of the Arson Watch Reward Program that provides rewards of UP TO $5,000 for information that helps to solve the case. The program is funded by the property and casualty insurance underwriting companies of Massachusetts.
The criminal investigation into these fires is being conducted by the Westport Police Department and State Police assigned to the Office of the State Fire Marshal. The team is in communication with the Tiverton (RI) Fire and Police Departments and the Rhode Island State Fire Marshal’s Office who are conducting a separate investigation into a fire on August 18, 2017.
