Elderly Norton Woman Rescued from Arson Fire
State Fire Marshal Peter J. Ostroskey, Norton Fire Chief Paul J. Schleicher and Norton Police Chief Brian M. Clark said yesterday’s fire at 90 Mansfield Avenue was intentionally set. The fire started at about 1:30 a.m. on the exterior of the home. Norton firefighters rescued an elderly woman sleeping on the second floor of the single family home. About an hour and a half before the fire, a Norton patrolman discovered a plastic recycling bin on fire across the street in front of 83 Mansfield Avenue.
State Fire Marshal Ostroskey said, “Anyone with information about either of these fires is asked to come forward confidentially and call the Arson Hotline at 1-800-682-9229 any time of day or night.” The Arson Hotline is part of the Arson Watch Reward Program which provides rewards of up to $5,000 for information that helps to solve the crime of arson. It is funded by the property and casualty insurance underwriting companies in Massachusetts.
The fires are being jointly investigated by the Norton Fire and Police Departments and State Police assigned to the Office of the State Fire Marshal.
