5 Perish in Warwick Fire
State Fire Marshal Peter J. Ostroskey, Warwick Fire Chief Ronald Gates and Warwick Police Chief David Shoemaker announced that five people, and adult and four children perished in a fire at 405 Richmond Road in Warwick. Two people escaped the fire and were transported to a local hospital. The fire department was called to the single family home at 12:45 a.m. The identities of the victims will be released by the District Attorney’s Office once the Medical Examiner has completed formal identification and the next of kin have been notified. While the investigation is ongoing, the fire appears to be accidental in nature.
The origin and cause of the fire is being jointly investigated by the Warwick Fire and Police Departments and State Police assigned to the Office of the State Fire Marshal and to the Office of Northwestern District Attorney David Sullivan. Assistance was received from the Code Compliance Unit in the Office of the Department of Fire Services.
This brings the total number of fire deaths in Massachusetts in 2017 to 18.
