To provide Call/Volunteer Firefighters with the training that they need to start their careers as well trained, and effective firefighters. These students will get the basic skills needed to be a firefighter and an asset to their department and community.
REQUIREMENTS FOR ATTENDANCE
This class is open to all Call/Volunteer Firefighters in the Commonwealth and every participant has to be 18 years of age or older. The return date of the student application and completion of all paperwork will determine selection to this program. The program has a total Student capacity of forty. The first forty fully completed applications that are submitted will be placed into the program.
We must have ALL completed paperwork. Sending in just an application to hold a slot will not be allowed. The paperwork consists of a student application (2 pages), Statement of Compliance Form and pages 1 and 6 of appendix B of the HRD Medical Examination Form.
ALL PAPERWORK MUST BE SUBMITTED BY THE CLOSE OF BUSINESS ON MONDAY, FEBRUARY 1, 2016.
We will be switching from Jones and Bartlett to the IFSTA Essentials of Firefighting and Fire Department Operations, Sixth Edition textbook. Once the students get accepted they will be sent a link to purchase the book with the required information to enroll them into the online portion of our program. They have to purchase this book through that link.
The program will consist of both Instructor led presentations as well as online modules that each Student will be responsible as part of a self-study component of the program.
Incident Command System
Every student will be required to submit a certificate of completion on training day #1 for the following:
- ICS 100, Introduction to Incident Command System
- ICS 700, National Incident Management System (NIMS) An Introduction

THE NEXT SCHEDULED PRESENTATIONS OF THE CALL/VOLUNTEER RECRUIT FIREFIGHTER TRAINING PROGRAM WILL BE:
Class 060 – DFS Springfield – Orientation is on June 20, 2016 and Training Day 1 starts on July 9, 2016 both dates are mandatory
Class 061 – Massachusetts Firefighting Academy, Stow – Orientation is on June 27, 2016 and Training Day 1 starts on July 10, 2016 both dates are mandatory
