May 1, 2016 – Open Burning Season Ends
The last day for open burning is May 1, 2016. It’s best to complete spring burning while there’s still snow on the ground and at least as early as possible. Changing weather conditions might prohibit permits from being issued in any given day.

May 3, 2016 – Senior Fire Officer Forum: Why Firefighters Die
Loudon County (VA) Fire Assistant Chief Matthew Tobia will present this Senior Fire Officer Forum on Why Firefighters Die. The presentation will explore proximate causes of line of duty deaths and near misses, and the role leaders can play in preventing predictable injuries. Course Fee: $20.00. MFA is offering the 2-day National Fire Academy (NFA) course Leadership I for Fire and EMS: Strategies for Company Success on May 10-11, 2016. It will help develop managerial and leadership skills for supervision, problem solving, decision making and running meetings.

May 26, 2016 – Public Swearing in of State Fire Marshal Ostroskey
On Thursday, May 26, 2016 at 3 p.m. Governor Charlie Baker and Lieutenant Governor Karyn Polito will publicly swear in State Fire Marshal Peter J. Ostroskey at the Department of Fire Services headquarters, One State Road, Stow, MA.
