The last day for open burning is May 1, 2014. It’s best to complete spring burning while there’s still snow on the ground and at least as early as possible. Changing weather conditions might prohibit permits from being issued in any given day.

Arson Awareness Week is May 4-10, 2014 is sponsored by the U.S. Fire Administration. This year’s theme is Vehicle Arson – A Combustible Crime.
May 5-6, 2014 – NFA Course: Incident Safety Officer
This 2-day course examines the Safety Officer's role at emergency responses. A specific focus on operations within an Incident Command System (ICS) as a Safety Officer is a main theme. Response to all-hazards types of situations will be emphasized. Deadline to apply is April 3. The course will be held at DFS, Stow on May 5-6, 2014.
Chief Billy Goldfeder, of www.FirefighterCloseCalls.com will be presenting a Senior Fire Officer Forum on Firefighter Death & Injury Survival Program, May 9 at DFS in Stow and May 10 in Springfield. This wake up lecture by Chief Goldfeder is an in-depth program featuring specific, recent fire ground events with a strong focus on dwelling fires-that ended with tragic results. He will examine the lessons learned from these fires; why some firefighters did not go home and some did. This is a very personal, high-energy direct and frank presentation on operations and tactics. This seminar will help you understand how and why.

June 17-18, 2014– Propane Industry Responders Conference – Rescheduled from April 2-3
The Propane Industry Responders Conference, co-sponsored by PERC (Propane Education and Research Council) and PGANE (Propane Gas Association of New England), has been rescheduled from April to June 17-18, 2014. The conference will be held in the link at the Department of Fire Services Stow campus and will include classroom discussions and field demonstrations on both days.
