Firefighter Casualties

State Fire Marshal Stephen D. Coan Offers Condolences to Boston Fire Department and the Families of FF. Kennedy and Lt. Walsh

State Fire Marshal Stephen D. Coan and the staff at the Department of Fire Services offer their deepest condolences to the families of Boston Firefighter Michael R. Kennedy and Lieutenant Edward J. Walsh and to the men and women of the Boston Fire Department.

Firefighters constantly train, improve firefighting tactics and the equipment and technology used to minimize the danger of the profession. Firefighting is an inherently dangerous job but we are never prepared for the shock and anguish when the ultimate sacrifice is made. The death or serious injury of family member, friend or colleague is tragic. These firefighters died serving others and protecting their community. Our hearts are heavy with sorrow at this loss.
