Effective February, 2004, the Building Code Board of Appeals will notify local fire departments of appeals hearings within their jurisdiction. In most cases, the fire department may not have an opinion on the appeal, but we are trying to ensure the fire department has a knowledge of requested appeals within their jurisdiction. We believe this will be of minimal impact to the fire service.
The fire service community is represented at the bimonthly Board of appeal hearings; Chief Keith Hoyle of the Amherst Fire Department attends the Tuesday appeal hearings, and Tim Rodrique, Director of the Office of the State Fire Marshal, attends the Thursday appeal hearings.
If you have questions relative to a specific appeals case, you should contact your local building official for more information on the property, code issues, proposed use(s), etc.
You may appear at the Building Code Board of Appeals hearings to testify, or send a written testimony in lieu of in-person testimony.
If you have further questions or comments about the Appeals process and our role in representing the fire service community, please contact Tim Rodrique, Director of the Office of the State Fire Marshal at 978-567-3301 or Chief Keith Hoyle of the Amherst Fire Department at 413-256-4088.
