Re: Waste Oil Heaters

The Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (MDEP) is asking fire departments for assistance concerning the installation of waste oil heaters. In addition to the requirements of 527 CMR 9, and 527 CMR 4, MDEP requires that waste oil heaters be registered with them. When issuing permits for the installation of waste oil heaters, fire departments are asked to remind the owner/installer that the heater must be registered with MDEP. Fire Departments are not responsible for notifying MDEP.

Thank you for your assistance in this matter.
