Sondra Senn to Deliver the Key Note Address at Public Education Conference - September 26-27

Sondra Senn, Administrator for the Public Fire Education and Data Management Section of the South Carolina Office of the State Fire Marshal will deliver the keynote address, Building a Fire Safe Future One Brick at a Time: Don't give up!. The story of South Carolina's amazing accomplishment of cutting the high number of fire deaths in half in just three years, and keeping them down, is inspirational.

The theme of this year's conference is Building Safer Communities. We encourage fire educators to reach out to those community partners whom they work with everyday to build a safer community - classroom teachers, injury prevention professionals, health educators and curriculum coordinators, public health professionals, elder service workers, volunteer and service organizations, nurses, social workers, school resource and school safety officers, and fire officers, principals and school administrators - and invite them to join you.

Location

The conference will be held at the Mansfield Holiday Inn, Mansfield MA close to Routes 95 and 495. Individuals may make their own overnight room reservations at the conference rate of $109 until September 9, 2007. Ask for the Fire & Life Safety Education Conference room block.

Who Should Attend?

Over 200 fire and life safety educators from a variety of fields attend this conference. It is designed to offer core workshops for new fire and life safety educators; workshops on new ideas, programs and teaching techniques to keep educators current; and workshops that continue to challenge and develop new skills for experienced educators.

Bring the Whole Team! Special Effort to Foster Non-Fire Service Partners

The fire service cannot solve fire and injury prevention problems alone. A special effort is made to develop workshops of interest to life safety educators and injury prevention professionals outside of the fire service. In an effort to encourage these local partnerships, there is a registration discount when fire service and non-fire service folks register together.

Climbing the Ladder of Success

This year we are again offering a special leadership development track. Managers, line officers, senior fire officers and chiefs are responsible for managing the fire and life safety risk in the community and for establishing a climate and tone within the agency. How customer service and risk management strategies are understood, valued and implemented in your agency is your responsibility. Pick up some strategies and ideas that have worked elsewhere.
