The Office of the General Counsel provides legal consultation, advice and representation to the Executive Office and the four divisions and their oversight boards and commissions that constitute the Department of Fire Services, as well as to the Board of Fire Prevention Regulations. In addition, this office conducts hearings on all appeals made to the State Fire Marshal pursuant to M.G.L. c.148 and on the suspension or revocation of licenses issued by the department. The Office also prepares all legal documents including any changes to statutes or to the Code of Massachusetts Regulations for which the Marshal has rulemaking authority.
