March 16, 2017 – Senior Fire Officer Forum: 25 to Survive
Capt. Doug Mitchell, FDNY, will present the a Senior Fire Officer Forum: 25 to Survive on Thursday, March 16, 2017 at the DFS Stow Campus. All ranks are welcome to this class that will discuss the 25 critical firefighting issues at residential structure fires – where more firefighters are seriously injured and killed. March 19-25, 2017 - Poison and Inhalant Abuse Prevention Week
March 19-25, 2017 is Poison and Inhalant Abuse Prevention Week. Firefighters respond to all types of poisonings from carbon monoxide poisoning, accidental and intentional overdoses, children accessing medicines and household chemicals and youth who abuse inhalants. Many substances involved in inhalant abuse are also major fire hazards. Nearly 40% of those who die from inhalant abuse were first time users. The last day for open burning is May 1, 2017. It’s best to complete spring burning while there’s still snow on the ground and at least as early as possible. Changing weather conditions might prohibit permits from being issued in any given day.
