There will be observances of the losses suffered in the September 11 attacks throughout the Commonwealth.

September 8, 2017 – Fallen Firefighter Memorial Ceremony
The annual Fallen Firefighter Memorial Ceremony will be held at the site of the memorial, Ashburton Park, State House grounds.

September 15-October 1, 2017 – Fire Safety at the “Big E”
From September 15 – October 1, 2017, the Western Mass. Safety and Fire Educators (Western MA SAFE) will be staffing a booth in the Massachusetts Building at the 17-day agricultural fair know as “The Big E” in West Springfield. The Department of Fire Services will be supporting this effort.

September 19, 2017Recruit Class #S05 Graduation
The graduation ceremony for Recruit Class #S05 will take place on September 19, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. at the Department of Fire Services, 100 Grochmal Avenue, Springfield, MA.

September 20-21, 2017 – 26th annual Hazardous Materials Training Conference
The 26th annual Hazardous Materials Training Conference will take place September 20-21, 2017 at the Hotel 1620 at Plymouth. It is sponsored by the Mass. Assoc. of Hazardous Materials Technicians (MAHMT).

September 26-27, 2017 – 23rd annual MA Fire and Life Safety Education Conference
The 23rd annual MA Fire and Life Safety Education Conference will be held September 26-27, 2017 at the Southbridge Hotel and Conference Center. The conference will offer 30 workshops and two general sessions with a focus on children, seniors and everyone in between. This year’s theme is Bridging the Gap: Fire Safety for All Ages. Nominations are now being accepted for the 2017 Fire and Life Safety Educator of the Year Award which will be presented at the conference.

September 29, 2017Recruit Class #257 Graduation
The graduation ceremony for Recruit Class #257 will take place on September 29 2017, at 1 p.m. at the Department of Fire Services, 1 State Road, Stow, MA.

September 29 – October 9, 2017 – Essex County Fire Chiefs @ Topsfield Fair
The Topsfield Fair, the oldest agricultural fair in the U.S. will begin at 1:00 P.M. on September 29 and run until October 9 at 11:00 P.M. Local departments and DFS staff will be manning a booth during the fair.

OCTOBER 

October 8-14, 2017 – Fire Prevention Week

October 30, 2017 – Call/Volunteer Recruit Class #66 Graduation
The graduation ceremony for the Call/Volunteer Firefighter class #66 will take place in the evening on October 30, 2017 at 7:00 p.m. at the Department of Fire Services, Springfield Campus.

October 31, 2017 – Halloween Fire Safety
State Fire Marshal Ostroskey urges everyone to practice fire safety around Halloween, a holiday that traditionally involves using candles, and offers safety tips.

November 8 – 9, 2017 – NoFires Conference: Investigating Fatal Fires

Governor Charles Baker will present the 28th annual Firefighter of the Year Heroic Awards on November 21, 2017, 10 a.m. Mechanics Hall, Worcester.
