September 2011 DFS - Briefs - Monthly Updates from the Department of Fire Services

In 2008, fire chiefs from across the Commonwealth were our partners in a public education campaign on winter heating safety. We talked in a unified voice and the results were impressive. Not only did awareness increase, we had a decrease in overall heating fires that year. I hope you'll join us in our education efforts this year and in 2012, which will include cooking and winter heating safety.

Celebrity chef Ming Tsai taped television and radio public service announcements (PSAs) on cooking safety titled "Put a Lid on It," and for the fourth year, "Keep Warm Keep Safe" will highlight winter heating tips. We'll be providing fire chiefs with campaign tool kits on both issues, which will include talking points, PSAs and press releases that will be customizable for your community. You'll receive special notification well in advance of both campaigns and I hope you'll join us in this effort.
