NATIONAL CORRECTIONAL OFFICER/EMPLOYEE WEEK STARTS MAY 1

Milford (April 28, 2011)-The week of May 1-7, 2011 is designated as "National Correctional Officer/Employee Week." Since 1985, the first full week of May has been dedicated to recognizing the significant contributions made by all corrections professionals throughout the field of corrections. In Massachusetts, more than 5,000 men and women perform their job duties with distinction and dedication in the Department of Correction.

"Corrections professionals are key members of the Commonwealth's public safety team. These law enforcement professionals play a vital role in the State's criminal justice system. They put their lives on the line everyday providing safety and security in the prison system," said DOC Acting Commissioner Luis S. Spencer. "In addition, they play a key role in the Department's commitment to inmate reentry, preparing inmates for a successful transition from prison to community living."

Sunday, May 1st through Saturday, May 7th has been set aside to salute the men and women who ensure the safe, secure and humane operation of our correctional facilities.
