District State Building Inspector, John McCarthy passed away peacefully on the evening of Thursday, May 22, 2008 after a lengthy illness.

John was a dedicated DPS employee for over 30 years. John's background was in masonry construction. He put this knowledge to good use as the State Building Inspector assigned to MASSPORT properties for much of the last decade; focusing on major projects at Logan International Airport and surrounding MASSPORT properties. In this capacity, John demonstrated his ability to deal with complex issues and projected an instinctive talent to work closely and successfully with multijurisdictional agencies including fire department personnel, MASSPORT authorities, engineers, architects and building contractors.

John was the embodiment of the word gentlemen. He was a devoted father, husband, brother and friend. John only had kind words to say about the people in his life and those around him could not say enough about his good natured character. He was a kind and gentle man who will be sorely missed by all.
