Please be advised that the Department of Public Safety’s new elevator 90-day re-inspection fee was recently filed with the Secretary of State and will go into effect on January 31, 2014.  However, in order to give the industry adequate time to complete its pre-inspections, the Department will not begin enforcement and collection of this fee until March 1, 2014.  Beginning on March 1st, this $200 fee will be assessed for the re-inspection of any elevator that does not fully comply with the Code and receives a 90-day blue certificate. This fee must be paid by elevator owners in the form of a check or money order made out to the Department of Public Safety.  An application for re-inspection must be filled out by the building owner (or their designee) and sent to the address provided on the form, not less than seven calendar days before re-inspection.  If the fee has not been received by the Department seven calendar days before the re-inspection, the elevator will be shut down and a new application for annual inspection will have to be submitted to the Department.  The application form for re-inspection is available here.  The elevator will not be certified until this fee has been received by the Department.
