In October, more than 200 future Massachusetts State Police troopers reported to the State Police Academy in New Braintree as members of the 80th Recruit Training Troop. That first day was the beginning of a 21-week journey that will result, in early March, with the graduation of the first new class of State Police troopers in more than five years. Along the way, the recruits will undergo intensive academic, physical, and law enforcement-based scenario training. Upon graduation, the new troopers will begin their careers where all Massachusetts State troopers do – assigned to one of the 40 barracks around the state, patrolling the roads of Massachusetts. The Department of State Police is grateful to the Patrick-Murray Administration and its Executive Office of Public Safety and Security, as well as to the Legislature, for their support of the new class of recruits.

Run Around the Campus
Recruits begin most days with a run around the campus at the State Police Academy. On some days, the early-morning run is several miles long.

Endured the elements on a recent morning run
Neither snow, nor rain, nor sleet... The Post Office’s motto could also be said of the State Police recruits, who endured the elements on a recent morning run.

MSP enforces of traffic laws

important component of training is water safety
Another important component of training is water safety, as troopers at times are called to enter bodies of water to rescue potential drowning victims or pursue fleeing suspects.
