May 13 th, 2005 marked the first day of the May " Click It or Ticket" mobilization, which will run through June 5 th, 2005. " Click It or Ticket" is a campaign of the Governor's Highway Safety Bureau (GHSB). The Massachusetts State Police and local police departments across the Commonwealth provide extra traffic enforcement during these mobilizations, focusing on drunk or impaired drivers and aggressive drivers.
The GHSB's " Click It or Ticket" Campaign involves not only traffic enforcement, but also public information and education in the form of public service announcements. State and local police participated in the production of the latest round of " Click It or Ticket" PSAs which are designed to educate the public about the importance of safety belt use and the consequences associated with not using a safety belt.
Since its inception in November 2002, the Click It or Ticket Campaign has had
a positive impact on highway safety in Massachusetts. Safety belt use in the state increased by 11% between 2002 and 2004 to 63%, the highest rate ever recorded. For more information on the " Click It or Ticket" program, visit the Governor's Highway Safety Bureau's website at www.mass.gov/ghsb.
