On Monday, February 27, 2006, at about 11:45 a.m., State Police Troopers working a paid detail on Route 3 North near the Billerica/Chelmsford line received a broadcast regarding a reported unarmed robbery at the Getty Gas Station on Boston Road in Billerica. Approximately ten minutes later, one of the Troopers working the paid detail, Trooper John Barrett, observed the suspect vehicle passing his location. Trooper Barrett followed the 1997 Oldsmobile Cutlass in his unmarked State Police cruiser requesting and awaiting back up. Ultimately, with the assistance of other State Police officers and members of the Andover Police Department, Trooper Barrett was able to stop the vehicle on Route 495 North in Andover and arrest its occupants.
Both the operator and passenger of the Oldsmobile were arrested for Unarmed Robbery.
Both were transported to the State Police Barracks in Andover for booking. Both were then turned over to the Billerica Police Department.
