On Friday, February 10, 2006 at about 10:30 p.m., Trooper Edmund DaCosta from the Troop D Community Action Team arrested a man in New Bedford on weapon and drug charges. Trooper DaCosta, with the assistance of the New Bedford Police Department , arrested Stephen J. Meneses, age 23, of New Bedford, on the following charges: Carrying a Firearm without a License; Possession of Ammunition without a Firearms Identification Card; Possession with Intent to Distribute (Class D) Marijuana; Assault & Battery on a Police Officer; and Resisting Arrest.
During the investigation of this incident, police recovered: a loaded Smith & Wesson 9mm handgun; $2,718.00 in U.S. currency; and 15 small bags of a substance that appeared to be marijuana.
Meneses was transported to the State Police Barracks in Dartmouth for booking pending arraignment in New Bedford District Court.
