After the tragic death of Massachusetts State Police Trooper Paul F. Barry, Shaw's Supermarkets, Inc. organized a week-long canister drive to raise money for the Barry Family. In an outpouring of sentiment, Shaw's and Star Market customers, at stores throughout the Commonwealth, generously donated $54,929 during the canister drive. Shaw's Supermarkets, Inc. generously donated an additional $5,000 to the fund.

On Thursday, July 20, 2006, at the Shaw's Supermarket in Franklin, Shaw's President Carl Jablonski presented Colonel Mark F. Delaney, Superintendent of the Massachusetts State Police, a $59,929 check made out to the Trooper Barry Memorial Fund. Accepting this check, a grateful Colonel Delaney stated, "On behalf of the State Police family, I would like to thank Shaw's Supermarkets, its employees and its customers for this generous donation and for the outpouring of support and kindness that they have shown to the family of Trooper Paul Barry."
