"Keeping our roads safer during the holidays is a top priority for those involved with highway safety in Massachusetts," said Sheila Burgess, Director of Highway Safety for EOPSS. "We need to keep working together year-round to educate everyone of the dangers of impaired driving and underage drinking."

The Division of Field Services is pleased to announce a pilot program involving a full-time compliment of STOP Team personnel. The STOP Team has traditionally been "on-call" to respond to a variety of high-risk missions on a call-out basis.

For over 20 years, the MSP has partnered with the USMC in providing drop-off areas for toys donated to Toys for Tots. As in years past, this year people can drop-off new, unwrapped toys at any State Police Barracks through Friday December 14th. This holiday season there is a specific need for toys designed for children under 2-years-old and for non-violent toys for children ages 9-12.

As part of the Fall 2007 "Click It or Ticket" Mobilization, we are encouraging safer driving and increased safety belt use during the Thanksgiving Holiday. A "Click It or Ticket" media event took place on November 20, 2007 at State Police General Headquarters in Framingham.

On October 5, 2007, members of the State Police were recognized in an Awards Ceremony and Luncheon held at the Sheraton Boston. Lt/Col. Walsh, Deputy Superintendent, presented the Department's winners with their Commonwealth Citation for Outstanding Performance (PRP).

Award recipients include state and local police officers and 3 civilians. The award recipients were honored for contributing to public safety, for performing acts of bravery and for engaging in police work that was beyond the call of duty.

On October 3, 2007, members of the AAMVA and Martha Irwin presented Sergeant Richard Eubanks of the Massachusetts State Police with an Honorable Mention Martha Irwin Distinguished Service Award for Safety, presented to a recipient whose primary function is directly associated with highway and traffic safety.

On September 26, Sgt. Robert Sylvester attended the 12th Annual Criminal Justice Fair at Westfield State College. Over 100 federal, state and local law enforcement officials participated in this event.

Major Alben completed a Master of Arts Degree in Homeland Security Studies at the Center for Homeland Defense and Security at the Naval Postgraduate School (NPS) on Sept. 21, 2007, in Monterey, CA.

The Massachusetts State Police is offering motorist safety tips to ensure all travelers, whether you may be traveling around the Commonwealth to enjoy the changing colors of the season from green to shades of red and orange, or the just traveling to and from fall soccer games, reach their destinations safely.

During the 2007 National Child Passenger Safety Week (September 16-22), busy parents and caregivers should take some time to ensure that their children are properly secured in a federally approved child safety seat, booster seat or with a safety belt.

On Sunday, July 8, 2007, Col. Delaney, State Police Chaplain Rabbi William Hamilton and members of the MSP participated in the Law Enforcement Prayer Service hosted by Rev. William Dickerson and the parishioners of the Greater Love Tabernacle Church in Dorchester.

In an effort to reduce the number of crashes on New England roadways during the upcoming July 4th Holiday Weekend, the MSP hosted a media event on Friday, June 29 at Headquarters in Framingham, highlighting the department's participation in Operation C.A.R.E, a national organization.

On May 21, 2007, Emma Rose Cross, 10, from the Donald E. Ross School in Braintree, MA was awarded with a plaque during the annual Missing Children's Day Ceremony celebrated at the State House.

Colonel Mark F. Delaney, members of the Massachusetts State Police and the Family of Trooper Paul F. Barry participated in the Annual National Law Enforcement Memorial events honoring police officers who were killed in the line of duty during the past year.

On April 26, 2007, Colonel Mark F. Delaney, announced the promotion of 30 members of the State Police. The ceremony was held at the State Police Headquarters in Framingham at 7:00 p.m.

On Friday, May 25, 2007, the MSP, invited guests, family, friends and co-workers gathered at the State Police Academy to celebrate the Special State Police Officer Class #18 Graduation Exercises. The Academy consisted of a 16-week program that prepared them for the challenges of College Campus Policing.

On May 22, the State Police honored sixty-four award recipients at Headquarters in Framingham. The award recipients include state and local police officers, a member of the U.S. Army, a member of the Essex County District Attorney's Office and 3 civilians.

On May 16, the International Association of Auto Theft Investigators presented Sgt. Lisa Butner of the Governor's Auto Theft Strike Force Unit with the George J. Acker Memorial Award for her outstanding efforts and work in auto theft investigations.

On Saturday May 12, members of the Boston Press Photographers Association Inc. presented Lt. Paul Maloney with the Fiftieth Annual Bob Howard Good Fellowship Award at a ceremony held at Boston University.

On April 27,2007 twenty-eight members of the Massachusetts State Police were honored at a ceremony held in Boston by the US Attorney's Office at the John Joseph Moakley Federal District Court. These MSP officers were commended for their dedication to duty and outstanding work ethic in federal murder investigation of the United States of America v. Paul A. Decologero et al.

On March 7, 2007, Trooper Stephen Buccheri, who recovered the child that was the subject of the February 23, AMBER Alert out of Winchester, met for the first time the parents of Owen Thomas at MSP General Headquarters in Framingham.

On Feb 27, 2007, Mothers Against Drunk Driving held their annual Drive for Life Awards breakfast honoring numerous police officers for their commitment in keeping our roads safe.

On January 22-26, 2007, a team of MSP personnel and local police officers attended CART training in San Diego. This program was specifically designed for a team of law enforcement professionals to obtain training in responding to a missing, endangered and /or abducted child incident.

On January 5, 2007, Colonel Delaney dedicated the Breath Alcohol Testing (B.A.T.) Mobile to Trooper Ellen E. Engelhardt. The ceremony was held at State Police Headquarters in Framingham.
