Monterey , CA. Timothy P. Alben, a Major with the Massachusetts State Police located in Framingham, Mass. completed a Master of Arts Degree in Homeland Security Studies at the Center for Homeland Defense and Security at the Naval Postgraduate School (NPS) on Sept. 21, 2007, in Monterey, Calif.
Alben has held a number of positions within the Massachusetts State Police and is currently serving as the Deputy Commander within the Division of Standards & Training.
During the eighteen month online and in-residence program, Alben collaborated with homeland security officials from across the nation on current policy, strategy, and organizational design challenges. He also completed research papers and wrote a thesis on "Community Policing and Compliance with Pandemic Community Interventions."
For nearly five years, The Naval Postgraduate School's Center for Homeland Defense and Security in partnership with The U.S. Department of Homeland Security National Preparedness Directorate, FEMA has conducted a wide range of programs. Through graduate and executive level coursework, seminars, and research, government and military leaders gain analytical skills and substantive expertise to prevent, deter, and respond to terrorist attacks and to bridge gaps in interagency and civil-military cooperation To date, 180 graduates have received their degrees from NPS and are senior leaders in state, local, federal, military and DHS agencies.
