On Friday, May 25, 2007, the Massachusetts State Police, invited guests, family, friends and co-workers gathered at the State Police Academy to celebrate the Special State Police Officer Class #18 Graduation Exercises. The Academy consisted of a 16-week program that prepared them for the challenges of College Campus Policing. The officers received instruction on numerous subjects including Patrol Procedures, Defensive Tactics, Legal Studies and Diversity.
Distinguished guests in attendance were Massachusetts State Police Lieutenant Colonel Marian McGovern, the Division Commander of Standards and Training, Major Kenneth Sullivan, Deputy Commander of Training, Boston Police Department Chaplin Father Sean Connor, Newly elected President of the Massachusetts Association of Campus Law Enforcement Association Chief Lisa Barbin, Wellesley College and Treasurer Chief Ernest Leffler, Bentley College.
Several special awards were presented to members of the graduating class :
- Officer Andrew C. Wentworth of the College of the Holy Cross was presented the Honor Award for obtaining the highest overall class average.
- Officer Stuart R. Fuller of the College of the Holy Cross was presented the award for achieving the Highest Academic Standing.
- Officer Andrew C. Wentworth and Officer Cara L. Sullivan of Amherst College were presented with the Male and Female Physical Fitness Awards.
- Officer Thomas W. Silburn of Gordon College was chosen by Drill Instructors, Trooper Jonathan Bray and Trooper Michael Leo to receive the "110% Award" .
