2009 State Police Award Ceremony

State Police Honor 38 for Bravery and Service

The Massachusetts State Police today honored 26 state and local police officers and 12 civilians for various contributions to public safety, acts of bravery, and police work beyond the normal call of duty. The awards ceremony, held at the Grand Staircase of the State House, was led by Secretary of Public Safety and Security Kevin M. Burke, and Colonel Mark F. Delaney, Superintendent of the State Police.

At the ceremony, Colonel Mark Delaney remarked, "Everyday law enforcement officers leave their homes, never knowing what perils or tragic human events they may encounter. In a mere instant, their assignment may escalate from the mundane to a virtual life or death drama. Today, we will recognize and honor both officers and private citizens, who in a time of crisis, heroically answered the call to duty, whether facing deadly force, or assisting their fellow citizens."
