Department 911 dispatchers Emily Mearian and Joseph Fantini, were recently recognized at the Massachusetts State 911 Department's fourth annual awards ceremony at Mechanics Hall in Worcester on April 27, 2011.

Dispatcher Mearian was honored for an incident which occurred on April 6th, 2010, in which she received a 9-1-1 cell call in which the caller cryptically relayed something was wrong. Dispatcher Mearian skillfully determined the caller was being held hostage by an estranged boyfriend in the city of Malden. Dispatcher Malden assisted the Malden police in determining the caller's location, which resulted the callers rescue and the arrest of the person intimidating her.

Dispatcher Fantini received information about a robbery in the town of Hopkinton, the information included a partial plate of a suspect vehicle. Dispatcher Fantini then showed great initiative by running variations of the plate via CJIS until he discovered a match for the description. He relayed this information to the Hopkinton Police which enabled them to promptly find the vehicle and its owner, resulting in the prompt arrest of the suspect.
