Trooper Bruce J. Tobin, currently assigned to the Norfolk County district attorney's office, received the Mark S. Charbonnier Award for his role in the capture of Malcolm Carnes, who was convicted of shooting to death Ezekiel Cuthbert outside a Randolph gas station in June 2007. Carnes was recently convicted and is serving a life sentence in prison for second-degree homicide. The Charbonnier award is of course named after Trooper Mark Charbonnier who was murdered during a traffic stop in Kingston in 1994. The award was presented by Colonel McGovern and Sergeant Halloran.
Tobin is the son of Quincy District Court Clerk Magistrate Arthur H. Tobin.
Robert P. Dana Awards went to Troopers Brian Dunn, James Muldowney and Joseph McLaughlin, who are stationed at the South Boston barracks. They were recognized for doing work that curbed illegal activity on Wollaston Beach in Quincy. Trooper Michael Lane of the Milton barracks was also recognized for his consistently outstanding patrol work which included more than 1,500 traffic stops in 2010. The Dana Award is named after Metropolitan Police Officer Robert Dana who was murdered in 1984, while assisting a Milton police officer on a traffic stop. The awards were presented by Norfolk County District Attorney Michael Morrissey.
Also in attendance were Lieutenant Colonel Frank Matthews, Major Thomas Grenham, Lieutenant Kevin Calnan, and Lieutenant Jon Maloney.
