Built in 1930 and situated midway between Worcester and Springfield, SP Brookfield area has a quiet atmosphere which continues to evolve from agricultural based economy to a bedroom community for the larger cities both east and west. Located in the area once inhabited by the Quaboag tribe of the Algonquin native Americans, it was once known as the ancient Quaboag Plantation, through a deed granted in 1660. Rte 9 is the major east - west thoroughfare and prior to the construction of the Massachusetts Turnpike was the main artery between Boston and New York. In 1673, the 1 st mail on the continent of North America, passed through Brookfield, by post riders to New York. The area is renown for its' out doors, fishing, camping and hunting. Covering 334 square miles the role of SP Brookfield is much the same as it was in 1930. Graduation from horses to motorcycles; Troopers patrol the area in cruisers doing all aspects of police activity from motor vehicle enforcement to investigating home breaking and entering. This barracks is also the assisting agency for local part-time and full-time area police departments needing our services.
