Station C-7, Belchertown, is located at the Winsor Dam on the Quabbin Reservoir in central Massachusetts. Established in 1992 during the statewide police services merger, this station replaced the former Metropolitan District Commission Police Station Quabbin. Station Quabbin was opened about 1937 when the Quabbin Watershed and Reservoir were being developed. Prior to 1992 the sole responsibility of the Quabbin Station was the protection of the Quabbin watershed lands and properties. Originally this area was part of State Police Troop B but was realigned with Troop C during 1992. State Police Belchertown then assumed the additional responsibilities and duties of providing state police services to six of the towns bordering the watershed along with patrolling state highways. Officers assigned to State Police Belchertown operate watercraft, all-terrain vehicles, 4x4 vehicles and tracked vehicles in addition to the traditional Massachusetts State Police cruisers while providing investigative, search/rescue and security services on 81,000 acres of watershed including the eighteen-mile long reservoir. Since 2001, State Police Belchertown has enforced additional security measures in coordination with the Massachusetts Water Resources Authority and Department of Conservation and Recreation to protect the Commonwealth's prime source of water for Boston and forty-six additional communities.
