State Police Respond to a Serious Crash Route 2 West in Acton
Preliminary investigation by Trooper Joseph M. McLaughlin indicates the female operator of a 2004 Mercury Mountaineer was traveling in the right lane of Route 2 eastbound in Acton. The operator turned into the left lane and began to pass a tractor-trailer. At some point the operator lost control of her vehicle and it began to roll-over into the left median. The Mercury rolled over the median guardrail and came to rest on Route 2 West. The operator suffered serious injuries in the crash and she was transported to Mass General Hospital by medical helicopter. The operator was the only occupant in the vehicle and was wearing her seatbelt at the time of the crash.
Members of the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, the State Police Crime Scene Services Section and the Massachusetts Highway Department assisted troopers at the scene. Route 2 was closed in both directions for approximately 2 hours while the medical helicopter landed to transport the operator, and the investigation was conducted. The name of the operator is being withheld pending family notification.
The cause of this crash remains under investigation. Please do not contact the barracks directly for media inquiries. No further information is currently available for disclosure.
