State Police Investigate Route 495 Andover Rollover Crash

On December 16, 2006, at about 3:55 p.m., State Police from the Andover Barracks responded to a one-car, rollover crash on Route 495 South, just north of Route 93, in Andover.

Preliminary investigation by Trooper Davidson Lamarre indicates that 30-year-old Mario Vernet of Revere was traveling on Route 495 South in a 1994 Suzuki Sidekick when he lost control of his vehicle, causing it to rollover and crash in the right travel lane. During the rollover, Vernet, who was unbelted at the time of the crash, was ejected from the vehicle.

Vernet was transported by ambulance to Lawrence General Hospital and then airlifted to Beth Israel Hospital for treatment of serious injuries.

The cause of this crash remains under investigation with the assistance of the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section. No charges have been filed at this time. State Police Crime Scene Services, Andover Police, Fire and EMS and Mass Highway all assisted at the scene.

The right travel lane and breakdown lane were closed for more than two hours.

This is all the information that is currently available. Please do not contact the barracks.
