State Police Investigate Route 6 Barnstable Crash

On December 10, 2006, at about 9:25 a.m., State Police from the Yarmouth Barracks responded to a one-car crash on Route 6 East, just west of exit 6, in Barnstable.

Preliminary investigation by Trooper Brian Sullivan indicates that 72-year-old Manuel Macara, Jr., of North Truro was traveling on Route 6 East in a 2000 Ford Taurus when he crashed into the guardrail just off the right side of the roadway.

Macara was transported by ambulance to Cape Cod Hospital for treatment of serious injuries. His passengers, 69-year-old Patricia Macara and 48-year-old Roxanne Macara, both of North Truro, were transported by ambulance to Cape Cod Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

Investigators believe the cause of this crash was operator fatigue. No charges have been filed at this time. State Police Crime Scene Services, Barnstable Police, Fire and EMS and West Barnstable Fire and EMS all assisted at the scene.

The right travel lane on Route 6 East was closed for about ten minutes.

This is all the information that is currently available. Please do not contact the barracks.
