State Police Investigate Fatal Crash Route 28 Bourne

On Wednesday October 4, 2006, at about 3:30 p.m. State Police responded to a two vehicle crash on Route 28 South just north of Route 151 in Bourne.

Preliminary investigation by Trooper John Hanafin indicates the following: a 2003 Honda CRV operated by John Ericson, age 76, from Cataumet (a village of Bourne) was traveling north on the south bound side of Route 28. His vehicle struck a 1997 Toyota Corolla driven by Muhammad Sabir, age 47, of Mashpee. Both operators suffered serious injuries. John Ericson was taken to Falmouth Hospital. Muhammad Sabir was transported to Falmouth Hospital where he was later declared deceased.

The cause of this crash remains under investigation with the assistance of the State Police Collision, Analysis, and Reconstruction Section, the Crime Scene Services Section. Troopers were also assisted at the scene by Bourne Police Department, Bourne Fire Department, and Mass Highway.

The roadway was closed for approximately 3 hours.
