State Police Respond to a Fatal Crash on Route 20 in Brimfield
Preliminary investigation by Troopers Lisa A. Mogan and Nathan W. Cinelli indicates a 16 year old male juvenile from Brimfield, Ma was operating a 2004 Ford pick-up on Route 20 westbound during a heavy rainstorm. He lost control and traveled off the right shoulder of the road. The driver's side of the vehicle struck a tree and the juvenile operator sustained serious injuries. He was transported to Harrington Memorial in Southbridge where he later died. The passenger, Thomas Lamoureux a 38 year-old from Brimfield, Ma sustained serious injuries, and he was transported to Bay State Hospital in Springfield.
While the crash remains under investigation with the assistance of the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, it appears that inexperience and the weather may have been factors in the crash. Both occupants were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the crash.
The State Police Crime Scene Services Section, the Mass Highway Department, the Brimfield Fire Department and the Sturbridge Fire Department assisted troopers at the scene. The right travel lane of Route 20 west bound was shut down for approximately 1 hour during the investigation.
