State Police Respond to Fatal Pedestrian Crash on Memorial Drive in Cambridge

On October 3, 2006 at about 11:30 p.m., State Police personnel responded to a pedestrian crash on Memorial Drive in Cambridge. The crash subsequently resulted in one fatality.

The preliminary investigation by Trooper A.J. Kardoos indicates the following: The driver of a Ford Focus, Maurizio Aragona, age 31 of Belmont was traveling thru the intersection on Memorial Drive at Amesbury Street in Cambridge pursuant to a green light when a 17 year-old female attempted to cross the street in front of the vehicle he was driving. As a result, the 17 year-old female was struck and sustained serious injuries. She was transported by ambulance to Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston and later declared deceased there on October 4, 2006.

Members of the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, the State Police Crime Scene Services Section and the Cambridge Fire Department assisted troopers at the scene.

The cause of this crash is still under further investigation. The name of the juvenile victim will not be released due to her age. Please do not contact the barracks directly. No further information is currently available for disclosure.
