State Police Respond to One-Car Crash Route 95 South in Canton
Preliminary investigation by Trooper Sean O'Brien indicates Garry W. Butler, a 49-year old from Cranston, RI was operating a 2005 Ford Pick-up on Route 95 South when he lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle rolled over in the area of the Neponset River Overpass, and Butler sustained a head injury. When troopers arrived on scene there were conflicting accounts that indicated there may have been another occupant in the vehicle at the time of the crash. Butler was unable to confirm the presence of an additional occupant. He sustained serious injuries in the crash and was transported to Norwood Hospital by ambulance.
Due to the uncertainty, troopers began an extensive search of the area. Troopers and a Massachusetts State Police (MSP) K-9 walk the wood-line and river's edges in the area of the crash. Members of the Norwood Fire Department and the Canton Fire Department deployed two rafts into the Neponset River and searched the water with "Pike-Poles." The MSP Air-Wing searched the surrounding area for any heat signature of the alleged passenger. The search determined there was not another occupant in the vehicle and ended at approximately 1:14 p.m.
This crash remains under investigation. The MSP K-9 Unit, MSP Air-Wing, the Norwood Fire Department, the Canton Fire Department and Mass Highway assisted troopers at the scene.
The left two lanes of Route 95 South were closed for approximately one and a half hours during the investigation and search.
No further information is available at this time. Please do not call the barracks.
