State Police Investigate Avery Brook Road, Charlemont Fatal Crash

Today at approximately 1:55 a.m. State Police from the Shelburne Falls Barracks responded to a one car crash on Avery Brook Road in Charelmont that resulted in one fatality.

Preliminary investigation by Trooper Michael R. Alker indicates that Jordan Nichols, a 19-year old from Corlrain, was operating a 1995 Subaru Legacy south on Avery Brook Road when he lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle left the right side of the roadway and struck a tree. The vehicle came to rest facing north. Nichols was not wearing his seatbelt and sustained minor injuries in the crash. During the crash the passenger, 19-year-old Timothy Peters of Shelburne Falls, who was also unbelted, was ejected form the vehicle and sustained serious injuries.

Both Nichols and Peters were transported to Franklin Medical Center by ambulance where Peters was later declared deceased.

The cause of this crash remains under investigation with the assistance of the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section. No charges have been filed at this time. State Police Crime Scene Services assisted troopers at the scene.

Avery Brook Road was closed in both directions for approximately 3 hours during the investigation.
