State Police Respond to Dorchester Ave. Fatal Crash involving a Pedestrian

Today at about 2:55 p.m., State Police personnel responded to Dorchester Avenue at Columbia Road in Boston to investigate a crash that occurred between a Toyota sports utility vehicle and a pedestrian.

The preliminary investigation by Trooper Sean Reardon indicates the following: The driver of a Toyota, Renee Monroe, age 75 of Dorchester was driving north on Dorchester Avenue when the vehicle she was driving struck a female pedestrian at the intersection of Dorchester Avenue and Columbia Road. The preliminary investigation also indicates that Renee Monroe was proceeding thru the intersection pursuant to a green light and the pedestrian that her vehicle struck was crossing the intersection against the traffic signals. The female pedestrian, Rita B. Cadegan, age 84 of Boston was transported by ambulance to Boston Medical Center for treatment of serious injuries. Rita Cadegan was later declared deceased at Boston Medical Center as a result of her injuries.

Members of the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, the State Police Crime Scene Services Section, Boston Police Department and Boston Fire Department assisted troopers at the scene. The entire scene was clear by about 4:45 p.m.

The cause of this crash is still under investigation. Please do not contact the barracks directly. No further information is currently available for disclosure.
