State Police Investigate Fatal Crash on Route 24 South in Fall River

Today, at approximately 12:45 a.m. State Police responded to a one vehicle crash on Route 24 South, north of the Route 195 split in Fall River that resulted in one fatality and one serious injury.

Preliminary investigation by Trooper Corey Rose indicates a 1990 Jaguar XJ6 was traveling on Route 24 South, in the left travel lane, at a high rate of speed. The operator of the Jaguar lost control of the vehicle and the vehicle crossed the roadway, colliding with the guardrail on the right shoulder of the road. The vehicle continued back to the left and collided into the median guardrail. After striking the median guardrail the Jaguar rolled over several times and came to rest, upright, in the median. The operator of the Jaguar, 61 year-old male, Monie St. Auburn, and his passenger, 61 year-old female, Marcia St. Auburn, both from Fall River, were ejected. Both sustained serious injuries and were transported to Charlton Memorial Hospital by Fall River Fire and Rescue. After a period of time, both individuals were transported to Rhode Island Hospital, where Marcia St. Auburn was later declared deceased as a result of her injuries. Both occupants of the Jaguar were unrestrained at the time of the crash.

Although, speed appears to have been a factor, the crash remains under investigation by the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section. Fall River Fire and Rescue and Masshighways also assisted troopers at the scene.

All lanes of Route 24 South were closed for approximately one hour during the investigation.

No further information is available at this time. Please do not call the barracks directly.
