State Police Assist Fall River Police in Pursuit on Route 24 North

On Sunday September 24, 2006 at about 8:50 p.m. State Police in Middleboro were advised that the Fall River police were on Route 24 North in pursuit of a 2006 Dodge Caravan which was involved in an assault with a dangerous weapon and an assault and battery in their town.

Troopers laid down stop sticks near the rest area in Bridgewater and were able to flatten the left front tire. The Caravan being operated by Ashley MacLeod, age 23, of 165 Carl Ave, Brockton, left Route 24 North and took Exit 17 to Route 27 in Brockton. As MacLeod exited the highway she attempted to ram a cruiser. The trooper took evasive action struck a curb and came to rest on a lawn. A second cruiser struck the rear of the van. As the van came to a stop the passenger, Antonio Calderone, age 24, of 15 Division St. Fall River, exited the vehicle and attempted to flee on foot. Calderone was quickly apprehended. While securing Calderone two troopers were bitten by the subject, they were taken to the Good Samaritan Hospital for treatment.

A further investigation revealed large quantities of drugs, believed to be cocaine, were found in the van and also along the highway. Both Calderone and MacLeod were taken to the Middleboro Barracks. Calderone will be charged with: (1.) Trafficking a Class B Substance (2.) 2 counts of Assault and Battery on a Police Officer. MacLeod will be charged with: (1.) Trafficking a Class B Substance (2.) Malicious Destruction of Property.

Both subjects will face further charges by the Fall River Police Department.
