State Police Respond to Crash on Route 2 West in Gardner

Today at about 2:40 a.m. state police personnel responded to Route 2 West in Gardner to investigate a one car crash involving a Mercedes.

The preliminary investigation by Trooper Corey Benoit indicates the following: The driver of a Mercedes, Judith Bermudez age 29 of Fitchburg was traveling west on Route in Gardner when she lost control of the vehicle she was driving. The vehicle subsequently rolled over. Judith Bermudez was transported by ambulance to UMass Medical Center in Worcester for treatment of serious injuries.

The State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, the State Police Crime Scene Services Section, the Massachusetts Highway Department, the Gardner Police Department and the Gardner Fire Department assisted troopers at the scene. All Route 2 West lanes near the crash scene were closed for about 20 minutes at the onset of the crash investigation. The right travel lane remained closed for about 3 hours throughout the investigation.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation. Please do not contact the barracks directly. No further information is currently available for disclosure.
