State Police Investigate Route 495 Haverhill Crash

On September 23, 2006 at about 8:55 p.m., State Police from the Newbury Barracks responded to a two-car crash on Route 495 North, just south of exit 52, in Haverhill.

Preliminary investigation by Trooper David Walsh indicates that 46-year-old Steven Listro of Atkinson, NH, was traveling north on Route 495 in a 2006 Chrysler 300 when he began racing with a 2004 Dodge Viper, operated 37-year-old Gerald Gagnon, Jr., of Dracut. The two vehicles subsequently collided, causing the Chrysler to travel off the right side of the roadway and roll over. Gagnon initially drove away from the scene, but returned some time later.

Listro was transported by ambulance to Anna Jacques Hospital for treatment of serious injuries. Gagnon was uninjured in the crash.

Both Gagnon and Listro were issued a summons for the following charges: Operating to Endanger, Racing and Speeding. Gagnon was additionally charged with Leaving the Scene of a Personal Injury Crash.

Merrimac Police, Haverhill Police and Haverhill Fire and EMS assisted at the scene.

The right travel lane on Route 495 North was closed for about 50 minutes.

This is all the information that is currently available. Please do not contact the barracks.
