State Police Investigate Three-Car Crash on Route 2 in Lincoln

On November 17, 2006, at about 8:30 p.m., State Police from the Concord Barracks responded to a three-car crash on Route 2 in Lincoln, just east of the Concord line.

Preliminary investigation by Trooper Kevin Callahan indicates that 33-year-old Bhavin Patel of Somerville was traveling on Route 2 East in a 1997 Volkswagen Jetta when his vehicle crossed over the center lane marking into the westbound travel lanes. His vehicle then struck the rear quarter panel of a 1997 Honda Civic before colliding head-on with a 1997 Mazda 626, both of which were traveling westbound at the time.

Patel was transported by ambulance to Lahey Clinic for treatment of serious injuries. The operator of the Mazda, 46-year-old Eric Schutt of Littleton, was airlifted to Beth Israel Hospital for treatment of serious injuries. The operator of the Honda, 34-year-old Andrew Wedlake of Westford, was uninjured in the crash.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation with the assistance of the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section. No charges have been filed at this time. State Police Crime Scene Services, Lincoln and Concord Police, Fire and EMS, Lexington Fire and EMS and Mass Highway all assisted at the scene.

Route 2 was completely closed for more than 3 hours.

This is all the information that is currently available. Please do not contact the barracks.
