State Police Investigate Fatal Crash on Route 495 North in Methuen

Today, at approximately 12:25 p.m., State Police responded to a two vehicle crash on Route 495 North at Route 110 in Methuen that resulted in one fatality.

Preliminary investigation by Trooper David Lamar of the Andover Barracks indicates a 2004 Jeep Liberty SUV was traveling on Route 495 South in Methuen and crossed the median into Route 495 North, striking a 1991 Chevrolet Camaro coupe head-on. The operator of the Jeep, 55 year-old Arthur D. Fraughton of Haverhill and the operator of the Chevrolet, 19 year-old David C. Hagman of Woburn were both taken to Holy Family Hospital in Methuen with serious injuries. The passenger in the Chevrolet, a juvenile female was taken to Lawrence General Hospital with serious injuries and later pronounced deceased at the hospital.

The crash is under investigation by the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section. The State Police Crime Scene Services Section, Methuen Fire Department, Methuen Police Department and Mass Highways Department assisted troopers at the scene.

The two right lanes of Route 495 North and the ramp from Route 110 to Route 495 North were closed for approximately two hours and twenty minutes during the investigation.
