State Police Investigate Route 93 Milton Fatal Crash

On October 29, 2006, at about 5:45 p.m., State Police from the Milton Barracks responded to a crash involving a car and a motorcycle on Route 93 North, between exit 3 and 4, in Milton.

Preliminary investigation by Trooper Michael Guerriero and Trooper Joseph Keefe indicates that 50-year-old Stephen McLaughlin of Brockton was traveling on Route 93 North in the middle travel lane in a 2001 Toyota Camry. When McLaughlin attempted to merge into the right travel lane, his vehicle collided with a 2004 Suzuki motorcycle. As a result of this collision, the operator of the motorcycle, 41-year-old Wayne E. Berg of Quincy, was thrown from the motorcycle.

Berg was transported by ambulance to Boston Medical Center where he was subsequently pronounced dead. McLaughlin was uninjured in the crash.

The cause of this crash remains under investigation with the assistance of the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section. No charges have been filed at this time. State Police Crime Scene Services, State Police Detectives assigned to the Norfolk County District Attorney's Office, Milton and Canton Fire and EMS and Mass Highway all assisted at the scene.

Route 93 North was completely closed in this area, with the exception of the left travel lane, for about 1.5 hours. A second travel lane was then reopened to traffic. All lanes were open by 8:45 p.m.

This is all the information that is currently available. Please do not contact the barracks.
