State Police Respond to Route 93 North Quincy Crash

On September 9, 2006, at about 3:20 a.m., State Police from the South Boston Barracks responded to a two-car crash on Route 93 North at Exit 8 (Furnace Brook Parkway) in Quincy.

The preliminary investigation by Trooper Brian Sullivan indicates the following: a 1997 Oldsmobile Achieva being driven by Rachel Saraiva, age 23 of Fall River was traveling on Route 93 North in the vicinity of Furnace Brook Parkway (exit 8) when the Oldsmobile struck the rear of a 1997 Honda Civic. The collision caused the Oldsmobile to swerve into the median, strike the median barrier, rollover and eject Rachel Saraiva from the vehicle. She sustained serious injuries and was taken to Boston Medical Center where she was later pronounced deceased. The operator of the Honda Civic, William Mulvey, age 34 of Brockton suffered no injuries.

All lanes of Route 93 North were closed as a result of the crash for about 4 hours. Traffic was diverted off Route 93 North at Exit 8 (Furnace Brook Parkway) throughout the road closure.

Members of the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, the State Police Crime Scene Services Section, the Quincy Fire Department and the Massachusetts Highway Department assisted troopers at the scene.

The cause of this crash remains under investigation. No further information is currently available. Please do not contact the barracks directly.
