State Police Investigate Pedestrians Struck on the VFW Parkway in West Roxbury

On December 6, 2006 at about 6:00 p.m., State Police from the Milton Barracks responded to a report of pedestrians struck on the VFW Parkway (Route 1) South at the Roche Rink in West Roxbury.

Preliminary investigation by Trooper Vernon Hubbard indicates that a 2001 Honda Accord Sedan operated by 44 year-old Lawrence H. Ransford of Canton, struck two pedestrians in the crosswalk on the VFW Parkway southbound at the Roche Rink in West Roxbury. One of the pedestrians, 44 year-old Dennis M. Riley of West Roxbury was taken by ambulance with serious injuries to Brigham and Women's Hospital. The second pedestrian, a young juvenile male was taken by ambulance with minor injuries to Children's Hospital.

Witnesses stated that the traffic on the VFW Parkway southbound was operating on a green light when the pedestrians stepped out on the crosswalk into traffic and were struck by the Honda. This crash remains under investigation.

The Boston Fire Department and Health and Hospitals assisted at the scene.
