State Police Respond to a Fatal Crash on Route 3 in Plymouth

Today, October 23, 2006, at approximately 5:58 a.m., State Police from the Norwell Barracks responded to a two-car crash on Route 3 South, south of Route 44 (exit 6) Plymouth that resulted in one fatality.

Preliminary investigation by Trooper Robert Clements indicates Felipe Paes a 20-year-old male from East Boston, Ma. was operating a 1997 Mitsubishi Gallant southbound on Route 3 when he lost control. The vehicle struck the guardrail, spun out and came to rest perpendicular to traffic. Allen E. Smith a 60-year-old from Middleboro was operating a 1993 Ford pick-up on Route 3 South. The Ford collided into the driver's side of the Mitsubishi that was stopped in the roadway. Paes suffered fatal injuries in the crash and was declared deceased at the scene. It is unknown if Paes was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. Smith was wearing his seatbelt, suffered minor injuries and was transported to Jordan Hospital for treatment.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation with the assistance of the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section. The State Police Crime Scene Services Section, the Massachusetts Highway Department and the Plymouth Fire Department assisted troopers at the scene.

The left lane of Route 3 South was closed for approximately 3 hours due to the investigation.
