Students Help State & Local Police Promote Safe Holiday Weekend Driving

What: Students at Monument High School are helping state and local public safety leaders by reminding those using the Commonwealth's roadways this holiday weekend of the importance of driving safely and buckling up. The details on state and local enforcement efforts to keep Massachusetts roads safer during the holiday period will be announced, especially those involving the Fall

"Click It or Ticket" Mobilization, November 13 - 26, 2006.

When: 11 a.m. on Tuesday, November 21, 2006

Where: Monument High School, 95 G Street, South Boston

Who: Secretary of Public Safety Robert Haas, State Police Colonel Mark Delaney, Boston Medical Center's Dr. William Fernandez; Monument High School/SADD Chapter student speaker.

Why: Eight people were killed on Massachusetts roadways during the four-day Thanksgiving holiday period in 2005.

Highlights:

  • A "Quick-Click-Buckle-Up Challenge", which involves teams of students in a timed competition. The goal is to be the fastest team to have all members buckled up in each of the four seating positions of a car.
  • The release of Massachusetts statewide observed safety belt use statistics.
