State Police Investigate Fatal Crash on Route 95 South in Sharon

Today, at about 6:00 p.m. troopers assigned to the State Police Barracks in Foxboro responded to a single vehicle crash on Route 95 South, north of Mechanic Street in Sharon that resulting in one fatality.

Preliminary investigation by Trooper Mario R. Monzon indicates 53-year-old Thomas W. Johnson of Foxboro was operating a 1996 Buick Century on Route 95 South. The vehicle was traveling in the middle lane and at some point the operator lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle traveled to the left and struck the guardrail on the left shoulder of the road. The vehicle then crossed all lanes of traffic and off the right shoulder of the road. The vehicle rolled over onto its roof and came to rest facing east on the shoulder of the road. Johnson sustained serious injuries, was transported to the Sturdy Memorial Hospital in Attleboro by Ambulance where he was later declared deceased. Johnson was wearing his seatbelt at the time of the crash.

This crash remains under investigation with the assistance of the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section and the State Police Crime Scene Services Section. The Sharon Fire Department, the Foxboro Fire Department and Mass Highway assisted troopers at the scene.

The investigation and vehicle recovery lasted approximately 2 ¾ hours, and all the cruisers were positioned in the breakdown lane. All three lanes of Route 95 South were open for travel. The three travel lanes were closed for approximately 6-10 minutes while some measurements were taken from the roadway.
