Subject Flees Massachusetts State Police During Arrest in Swansea

Today at approximately 5:20 p.m. Sergeant Thomas Medeiros of the State Police Barracks in Dartmouth was assaulted while on a traffic stop on Route 195 West near exit 2 in Swansea.

Preliminary investigation indicates Sergeant Medeiros attempted to stop a 2006 Isuzu Ascend on Route 195 West for motor vehicle violations. Douglas J. Nasiff, a 41-year-old male from 9 Nuthatch Lane in north Dartmouth, failed to stop the vehicle for approximately 4 miles. The pursuit continued and the Isuzu eventually stopped on Route 195 West near exit 2 in Swansea. During the stop Nasiff physically resisted Sergeant Medeiros' attempts to place him under arrest. Sergeant Medeiros did spray Nasiff with Oleoresin Capsicum but he was able to flee the scene in his vehicle. A search for Nasiff was conducted with the assistance of the Rhode Island State Police, the Providence, Rhode Island, Police Department, the Swansea Police and troopers from the D-Troop area.

At approximately 6:15 p.m. Nasiff was located by the Providence Police Department, and was taken into custody by the Rhode Island State Police.

Sgt. Medeiros has sought a warrant for Nasiff out of Fall River District Court for 1) Speeding (90-17), 2) Marked Lanes Violations (89-4A), 3) Operating to Endanger (90-24), 4) Failure to Stop of a Police Officer (90-25), and 4) Resisting Arrest 268-32B.

No further information is available at this time. Please do not call the barracks directly.
